St Peter's Church Roof - some good news!

We are delighted to be able to share some very good news:

To all members, friends and supporters of the churches of St Peter and All Saints

I am delighted to be able to announce that our application to the National Lottery Heritage Fund for a grant towards the renewal of St Peter’s Church roof, along with a heritage education project called ‘Our Stories’, has been successful. The grant will be for £211,000. It is also encouraging that several other funding bodies have already made grants towards this work, or indicated that they will do so.

Unfortunately, of course, the Covid19 crisis will cause a delay to the start of the work, although some preliminary preparations, as well as aspects of the Our Stories project, can begin. The work to the roof will be carried out by Midland Stonemasons, who are specialist contractors for work on historic buildings and who carried out the recent roof renewal work at St Mary’s as well as a major project at St Barnabas Cathedral. Our church architect, Peter Rogan, will oversee this work.

I would like to express our enormous gratitude to Dorothy Mountford, project lead, for her tireless and unstinting work over many months in preparing our application for this grant. Competition for these grants is very fierce, and we have done extremely well to secure this funding. I also thank members of the parish site committee, chaired by Brian Dunn, for all their work in connection with the grant application.

It is wonderful to be able to share such good news in these difficult times.

With every good wish

Christopher
