Overseas Committee

The parish Overseas Committee supports fellow Christians and others in various areas of the world, through prayer and personal links as well as financially. It organises fundraising events in support of overseas charities, in particular those which respond to acute need and poverty. Donations are made each year, through the parish account, to Christian Aid, the Church Mission Society, and United Society Partners in the Gospel. Particular fund raising for Christian Aid takes place each year during Christian Aid Week.

Other charities supported by the Overseas Committee have included, in recent years, the Children at Risk Foundation in its work with street children in Brazil, Mercy Ships (which provides health care to impoverished communities), the Mission Aviation Fellowship, the African Prisons Project, the Toilet Twinning sanitation project, and support for those with acute gynecological needs in Nepal. The Overseas Committee has also raised money in support of areas of the world suffering from particular crises or disasters, such the victims of the Ebola outbreak in Sierra Leone, and the victims of severe climate events such as hurricanes and famines. The Overseas Committee also supports the parish’s links with Mission Partners under the auspices of the Church Mission Society, and ensures that they are included in the prayers of the churches in the parish.

The Overseas Committee generally meets bi-monthly; if you are interested in joining the committee, and have particular skills or experiences which you could bring, please contact the vicar.
