Women of Faith Nottingham

The Women of Faith Group is a self-help initiative set up by All Saints’ Church to provide a safe and friendly place of welcome and belonging to female asylum-seekers and refugees to Nottingham. It brings together women from a range of countries, faiths and backgrounds, and meets on the first Thursday of each month. With the help of a team of volunteers, the women are offered a safe space where they can meet to share a meal together, participate in personal development and recreational activities, and grow in self-esteem and resilience. Through the group, the members learn about British values, develop mutual respect for one other and respect for law and order, practise and develop basic skills such as English language and team-working. They are guided to sources of advice and information to meet their practical needs. These objectives are met in part through group discussions and guest presentations from community organisations and leaders.

The members of the group also take it in turns to prepare a meal for the whole group; the meals typically draw upon the particular cultures and traditions of group members. Sharing a meal in this way encourages healthy eating, as well as enabling members to learn from one another about their respective national customs and to share skills.

Special events have included a summer holiday club for the children of the members of the group, outings, Christmas parties and musical evenings.

Any donations towards the group’s hardship fund will always be welcome; please see the ‘Giving to the Parish’ page on this website, and indicate that your gift should be allocated to the Women of Faith Nottingham hardship fund.
