Deanery Synod

Nottingham Central Deanery Synod Report

Deanery Synod met on six occasions during the year and all meetings were well attended by elected representatives of all the parishes in the deanery. A feature of the meetings is for Deanery Synod to hear of news and developments from the parishes of the deanery and how they go about mission, are coping with an interregnum, the development of inter-parish working, outreach activities and specific project work. I must say that there is a tremendous amount of good work being done in the deanery.

Another feature of Deanery Synod is to make space in the agenda of the meeting for keynote speakers who were asked to take as their theme one of the elements of the diocesan mission values – discerning God, valuing people, serving community and enabling change.

During the year there were continued diocesan and deanery discussions about the number of deaneries there should be in the diocese and their boundaries. This led to the following resolution being passed by Nottingham Central Deanery Synod.

That two new deaneries of Nottingham North and Nottingham South be formed from the deaneries of Beeston, Nottingham Central, Nottingham North and Nottingham West.
Nottingham South Deanery will comprise the parishes of Nottingham Central plus Lenton, Lenton Abbey, Wollaton Park, Hyson Green, Carrington, Beeston, Bramcote, Stapleford, Chilwell, Toton and Attenborough.

Diocesan Synod has recommended the changes to Bishop’s Council and a decision is awaited.

I am delighted to report that the deanery contribution to the diocesan share for 2007 was 98% of the target agreed.

Serving with me as Deanery Synod parish representatives for the last three years have been Laurie Crawforth, Esther Elliott, Hilary Evans, Kevin Hancox, Peter Hoare, Kirsten Solway and Andrew Wallis. The parish has well supported deanery synod with its organisation with Stephen Morris being Area Dean, Laurie Crawforth, lay chair and Len Simmonds, secretary.
